You will not believe what happened on Christmas Day! There was an envelope on the tree for me and I opened it and it said that I had finished raising all of the money for the well! I was so happy because I had written at school that all I wanted to give for Christmas was a well and then my dream came true. I can't believe it! I'm so thankful for everyone who gave money to the well. This is so amazing. My mom said that over 250 people will have clean water now because of everyone who gave to the well.
I will let everyone know when I find out where our well is going to be. I can't wait.
Thank you to Emma (my best friend in Tennessee), the McMahans, the Moores, Eric, the McElveens, Mrs. O'Malley, the Moreaus, the Hayashis, the McMinns, the Coxs, the Lukeis, the Thrashes, the Pahules, Brady, the Bernhardts, the Pomeroys, and the Fujiwaras.
Guess what? This is even more incredible. We did not even use the money we raised eating rice and beans to finish the well. So, I have very exciting news. All of the kids who ate rice and beans are going to start raising money for a new well! We are all going to give the money we saved from eating rice and beans to start off the new well. As soon as we set up the website for the new well, I will tell you about it. I love raising money for wells!

ReplyDeleteOH WOW! OH WOW! OH WOW!
ReplyDeleteWe are THRILLED! I can't imagine a better Christmas gift. We are so excited to hear where the well is and to start on the next one. We've told everyone who will listen to us about you. Thank you for changing our lives!!
Hey Riley . . . I found your blog at the charity:water website. What exciting projects you're involved with!!
ReplyDeleteI live in France right now because I'm learning how to speak French so that I can move to Niger (a West African country in the middle of the Sahara desert!) and work in a hospital there. I'm going to spread the word about your beans and rice idea to my classmates . . . a lot of my friends work in countries where charity:water builds wells.
Thank you for spreading your good ideas! (And tell your parents that they are doing a GREAT job!)
Riley! This is incredible! What an amazing heart you have! You probably don't remember me, but we got to hang out together at Woodleaf a few summers ago! This is so encouraging!
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Bree

ReplyDeleteI am an editor for a Christian girls magazine called SHINE brightly. We do a feature on girls and the amazing things they have done, and would like to feature you in our March 2011 publication. It will involve a short blurb on page 3 and then a longer description on our website. Once the magazines are published, we send you five copies to keep. To send these copies we need an address. If I could get that from you, that would be wonderful! Feel free to check out our website at www.gemsgc.org =)

Hi Kelli- this is Riley's mom, Sarah. Thanks so much for contacting us and featuring Riley- she's very excited! If you want to email me at bsgoodfellow at gmail dot com I can send you our address. Also, since Riley finished her first well, she has done 2 others. We just didn't keep up with her blog. Let me know if you need any other information.
